Thanks to my wonderful parents Anne and Martin, I was born on the 10th March 1980. Five years earlier on the 11th July my sister, Hannah was born. We were both very well brought up, with an abundance of love from our parents and grandparents . But despite my wishing and begging that I could have a brother, It was to be just myself and Hannah. Until last year when Hannah got married to Simon. My NEW brother(ish!). Hooray!.
When We were both young our parents took us on some wonderful and very memorable holidays.
Every year they would take us away, usually to France on camping trips. I think that it must have been on one of these trips that I started to ask "can we go there?" (in a really whinny voice) every time we passed a children playground.
Some of my earliest and best memories are the two holidays that we took to Jugoslavia. As I was young they have both blended into one, but to me they are the same. Long summer days, friendly locals (I remember mum and dad looking quite distressed when they came back to me on the beach to find a young couple reading my book to me!) and just generally having great fun, as kids do.
We also took a long holiday to the USA to see my Aunt Christina, Uncle Barry and my Cousin Phil who had moved over a few years earlier. That was a fun trip, we covered so many states and took some wonderful journeys. Unfortunately, I was young and saw so much, that most of it is just remembering the photos that we took. I still had a wonderful time and I remember feeling so sad when we left. Which I still do when I leave a place I have visited. I don't cry for hours and hours now, but I do say a little goodbye each time I leave a place.
I also blame my god mother - Auntie June for this travel bug, She would relive our parents once in a while, and take myself and Hannah on little holidays. The perfect godmother. This woman is the ultimate traveler, last time I heard she was going on 5 holidays this year. I think she's in Hawaii at the time of writing!.
So what with annual holidays with our parents and trips with my god mother, can anyone blame me for wanting my annual holiday?.
