Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand

SINGAPORE

Our hotel was in Little India. The smells of the food and the music playing, reminded me so much of India that I wanted to go back. The first day we spent in Singapore we spent most of the day looking round Little India, eating Thalis and other smaller dishes. In the evening, as it was the beginning of Chinese New Year, we went into China town to see the activities.
The Next day we were up early and took a very long walk to the Fountain of Wealth in the city. This is where you walked around three times and then your fortune will come to you. I wonder how long it takes until I get this fortune?. We walked back, me looking for somewhere to buy a Singapore Sling (cocktail) but couldn't as the only place that sells them is the Raffles Hotel which we passed on our way home and couldn't be bothered to go all the way back there, to spend a small fortune on one drink.

MALAYSIA

When we arrived in Malaysia, we were met at the bus station by my family, Beth and Ray. They live in a place called Kuatntan on the east coast of Malaysia. We drove to where they live and relaxed in their swimming pool. Beth and Ray certainly know their Asian food, we went to so many wonderful food places, Maurice was in foodie heaven. Fish head soups, milky prawns.... yum. We were invited to a friends house warming party in Kuantan, and it was so interesting, they were serving (more) tasty, and delicious food and we got to meet a few friends that my parents met when they came out here.
Ray took us on a jungle walk up into one of the mountains in their area and it was beautiful. It took us a while to get up there, then Maurice went for a run as well. Then we walked back down again!.
After some wonderful days in Kuantan, swimming in the pool, catching up with my family and eating so many delightful dishes, we took a bus up to Kuala Lumpur.
On the bus there we were told of a travel expo in the city where we may be able to get cheap flights to Thailand.
We went the next day, and although it was packed and hard to find, was fun, we met an American guy who was also looking for cheap flights. We didn't find any deals that were what we were looking for, but we did find a theme park that sounded so cheesy that we had to do it. After we had done what we had to do we went drinking with him in the evening in China town, where we were staying.
We did a lot of walking and exploring in Kuala Lumpur, mostly in shopping centers as Maurice had to find a certain pair of army pants... . I loved China town in KL, it was so busy and so much food ... yum.
A few days later and we were off to Genting: 'City in the clouds'. Yes it was cheesy, yes it was tacky, but it was so much fun, and because it was Chinese new year it was even more busy and lots of little shows of Chinese dancing and singing. The 'City in the clouds' is a few hotels, a theme part and lots and lots of Casinos, pools and shows up way up high on top of a mountain rainforest. To get there we had to take a train and then a cable car to the top. Our first evening there we went to see a show, which we got cheaper tickets for because we had booked in the Expo and it was the tackiest thing I've ever seen. It was called H2o and it was just silly. I think it was a magic show, musical, theatre and mystery story all in one...but I'm not to sure as all i can remember was a guy with a really spooky clown like smile trying to get the audience excited, and failing. It was so funny. The next day we went to the theme park and had ourselves a good old fashioned time, scaring ourselves silly on wild rides and getting soaked on log fumes. That night after drying out, we had a casino night, which was so much fun. We found some Roulette tables and played away. For Maurice it was a long night, for me, I faded after around 6 hours, but he just carried on going and won us a load of cash!. The next day we relaxed around the hotel and the shops and Maurice started on the Casino again, but soon gave up..
When we arrived back in Kuala Lumpur, we had one night left and then we were flying to Thailand, so we gathered all our stuff that we had left at the hotel and were up early to catch the flight... Well I was. Maurice took his time and then I found out that he had GUESSED the time that it would take for us to drive to the airport. He had guessed it would 30 mins, but when the taxi driver laughed at this, our hearts dropped, as it would take 2 hours. Even if it had been half a hour , we were going to be late anyway, as Maurice had been taking his time to get ready. But the taxi driver did what he had to do and we got there just before the plane was taking off, so we were so so lucky.

THAILAND

We arrived in Phuket and found ourselves a good enough hotel and a bike hire place and spent the rest of the day and the following days on the bike checking out where we were. So for all our time in Phuket we were either on the beach the bike or at a pool. Very relaxing and very chilled. A few day later we were on a on the flight on our way to Ko Samui where we did exactly the same things. I wasn't too impressed with either place as you can see how touristy it is. It is a shame that we didn't have enough time to see more inland (even though Maurice has before he met me) as I have just come away with a touristy look of Thailand. But we still did have a good time though, the best place to go just before going back to work after such a long trip.
We took a train to Bangkok after getting off Ko Samui and had a lovely long train journey overnight.
I got pretty ill in Bangkok, but one day when i was feeling kind of OK, we took a bus to the biggest market that I have ever been to, it was just packed with every single item that you could imagine. We spent ages there doing our last shopping and had so much fun.
Then it was time to get back on yet another plane and head for home.
